5 Tips for the Perfect Holiday House

This post is sponsored by Honey Maid. Thank you for supporting the brands that support this blog.

We are excited to start new holiday traditions this year, including making holiday houses together as a family! For the last few years, Aimery and I have made a holiday house together during the holiday season, and we are so excited to share that tradition with Ben this year! We love keeping it simple and designing a fun creation for our house together. Some of my best holiday memories while growing up were making and decorating holiday houses with my family, and I love being able to carry that tradition on with Aimery as he is getting older! Over the years, we have learned some great tips for creating holiday houses. Keep reading for some simple tips to making your holiday house look its best!

USE GRAHAM CRACKERS

I love using Honey Maid graham crackers, because they allow us to easily create a holiday house with Aimery. We eliminate the time baking gingerbread from scratch since these graham crackers are already baked and ready to go! By using graham crackers, we are able to have more creative freedom over the structure of the holiday house, which makes designing it so much more fun! I picked up Honey Maid graham crackers on my weekly trip to Walmart! We love Walmart because it’s our one-stop shop for everything we need for holiday baking.

PICK A DRY DAY

From my experience, I’ve found that making holiday houses on a cool, dry day is optimal! The house tends to fall apart when there is humidity in the air. It also seems to keep the frosting soft, when you should aim for stiff frosting for the best results!

START WITH THE SEAMS

From our experience, we have found that building the entire structure of the house before adding any decorations works much better while making our house! We first attach the graham crackers together with icing and then cover any messy seams with more frosting. We then wait for the icing to harden so that the structure is firm before adding extras!

TAKE YOUR TIME

Making a quality holiday home, takes lots of time and patience! For best results, you may want to build it one day and let it sit for a few hours, if not overnight. That way you can make sure everything is in place before you start decorating!

USE FUN TOPPINGS

The best part of making a holiday house is definitely decorating! You can really customize your house any way that you like - just make it fun! We love switching it up every year and trying something new. This year we used Oreos, Swetish Fish, Sour Patch Kids & Chips Ahoy cookies, which are some of our favorites. This way, we were able to have a combination of sweet, sour, and chocolate flavors on our house! Yum!

Bonus tip, make sure to put your finished home in a safe spot! One year when I was growing up, my dog got ahold of our gingerbread house after we had spent hours working on it! Now that we have a new puppy in our home, I made sure to keep our holiday home out of Dimples sight - just in case! 😂What are some fun holiday crafts you like to make with your family? Comment below!
