38 Week Pregnancy Update

The countdown is on with less than two weeks until baby girl’s due date! This could quite possibly be my last bumpdate since she could come any day now. She is the size of a mini watermelon and weighing in at about seven pounds. We’ve been staying busy over here - on top of Ben finishing up his last finals as a full-time college student and me working towards taking a maternity leave, we’ve been checking things off our to-do list to prepare for baby girl. Over the last few weeks, we have installed her car seat, packed our hospital bags, and made a ton of freezer meals! At this point, we feel 100% ready for her to come!

HOW BABY GIRL IS DOING

I am now having weekly midwife appointments, and it’s been so nice to be more in touch with what is happening in my pregnancy after months of COVID restrictions and spacing out my appointments. She is still measuring great and is making great progress the closer we get to her due date. Last week after my chiropractor appointment, she dropped! I’m currently 1cm dilated, so we are progressing towards labor very well.

HOW I’M DOING

I’m still waiting to reach the “nesting” part of pregnancy, and at this point I’m unsure I actually will. 🤪 I have been nothing other than exhausted over the last month and it’s a struggle making it through the day without needing a mid-day coffee or nap. With every day closer to her due date, Ben has took over more of the home and parenting responsibilities as I have less energy than the day before. As I mentioned in my last update, I have anemia in this pregnancy, and although I’m taking an iron supplement, I don’t feel much relief from everyday exhaustion. Along with the overall tiredness, I’ve been experiencing lots of braxton hicks and I can feel my body changing to prepare for labor. I hope this means she’s going to make her appearance soon, as we are ready to meet her!

HOW BIG BROTHER IS DOING

We have been spending a lot of quality time with Aimery over the last few weeks, making sure we complete our fall bucket list before our season is cut short with his baby sister coming. We’ve gone to the pumpkin patch, fall festivals, and took him to a safari. We’ve been doing everything we can to also make him feel special and included in getting things ready for baby girl. He’s been helping Ben with assembling baby products like her swing and car seat, and has enjoyed learning how things work. I can’t wait for them to meet for the first time!
