Welcome back to my elevated sides series, where I’m sharing all my favorite Thanksgiving recipes, everything but the turkey! Today I’m sharing my Crispy Smashed Brussels Sprouts with Apple and Prosciutto, they turn out so crispy and delicious every time!
Ingredients
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425° Fahrenheit.
- On a baking sheet, toss brussels sprouts with olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, chili pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Bake for 15 minutes, or until brussels sprouts have cooked through, but aren't quite done yet.
- Remove from the oven and begin smashing by using a small glass or cup measure to smash them all flat. Move them to one side of the baking sheet, and sprinkle parmesan evenly onto the baking sheet, creating a thin layer of cheese. Place the brussels on top of the cheese, and then repeat on the other side.
- Sprinkle chopped apples and prosciutto on the same baking sheet to fill the spaces around the brussels sprouts. Bake for 7-10 more minutes, or until the parmesan cheese is melted and golden brown, prosciutto is crispy, and apples have cooked through. Enjoy!
Notes
To prepare these in advance, simply steam or boil brussels sprouts and then allow time to cool before placing them in the fridge. Then, you can smash them and place them in the oven to become crispy!
You can swap the apples and/or prosciutto for lots of other things and it would be delicious, we've made these with bacon, dried fruit, and nuts!
