8+ Must Know Period Travel Tips, Tricks, & Hacks
This post is sponsored by Poise but all opinions are my own.
Getting your period on vacation: huge bummer! Although, it does not have to be the end of the world. Luckily, there are tons of different tips, tricks, and hacks out there that can make this inconvenient timing a bit more bearable. When I’m traveling with my period, I refuse to let it ruin my entire trip and you should do the same! These are some of my best tips that have gotten me through plenty of adventures with mother nature, so remember these for your next big adventure.
GRAB A REUSABLE HEAT PACK
Bringing a reusable heat pack has saved me time and time again while I’m on vacation! I toss mine into the microwave for a minute or two, let it cool down for a second, then it’s ready to go. It’s said that lying down with a heat pack is one of the best ways to reduce cramps, which no one wants on their fun vacation! Plus, it’s also great to have on hand for shoulder, back, or headaches.
ASSEMBLE A PERIOD KIT WITH EXTRA ONE BY POISE PADS & LINERS
Having your period products is an obvious essential! I always assemble a travel period kit so I’m never stuck in a situation where I don’t have what I need. I grab a small travel bag and fill it with wet wipes, hand sanitizer, plastic waste bags, an extra set of underwear, and extra One by Poise ® 2-in-1 Protection for 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐝 𝗪𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐬™. The One by Poise® pads and liners make an amazing addition to your period kit, even if you’re not actually on your period. Bladder leaks can happen anytime, so I like to stay prepared. If you forget to pack your kit and need to grab some Poise pads on your way, no worries! You can stop in or order online from the nearest Walmart and grab the uniquely designed, all-in-one solution for periods & bladder leaks while traveling. PS, they have dryness + odor control benefits that are great for longer trips. It’s honestly become a normal addition to my self-care routine. Girl, you deserve the best! Trade up to a better experience and add a few extra One by Poise® pads and liners to your period kit. Be sure to use the Ibotta offer to earn $3 back while supplies last!
TAKE A YOGA BREAK
As much as you probably don't want to think about exercise while you’re on vacation and on your period, it can help those cramps! If you don’t want to spend time in the gym, that’s ok! Yoga on the beach, anyone?
PACK YOUR EXTRA-COMFY CLOTHES
I love looking fashionable on vacations as much as the next gal. Although for those traveling days in the car or on a plane, I’m in the comfiest clothes I own. I also pack an extra pair of sweats in case there’s bad weather and we have to have a movie night! On the nights we go out, I’ll wear outfits that flatter my figure without being overly restrictive or uncomfortable. Some days, you’ll just have to dress up a comfy pair of leggings and rock it!
HYDRATE! HYDRATE! HYDRATE!
I’ll admit that I’m not the best at remembering to get all 8 glasses of water in while I’m on vacation. When you’re losing blood, though, you need to stay on top of your hydration. Just a quick reminder that those margaritas don’t count!
SNACKS, DUH!
Traveling without snacks is a big no no, especially while you’re on your period! Your body is working hard and it gets tired. Snacking is completely normal, so pack some nutritious goodies like granola bars, bananas, or mixed nuts to satisfy your hunger.
OPT FOR A SPA DAY
If long hikes, bike riding, or strenuous activities are on the agenda for today and you’re not feeling up to it, opt to sit the day out and spend some time at a spa. A massage, mani, and pedi sounds like the perfect way to relax!
CHOOSE YOUR MEALS WISELY
If you’re like me when mother nature is here, it feels like even the thought of food can make me feel bloated. As much as I’d love a hamburger and fries, I’ll go for lighter options that my stomach will thank me for later!
PAINKILLERS ARE ESSENTIAL
Painkillers make my travel bag no. matter. what. Headaches, cramps, and muscle aches are not welcome on my trip! Grab a fresh bottle and continue having a great time pain-free.
Having your period while you’re supposed to be having tons of fun on vacations is seriously less than ideal. It’s not worth the stress, though! Follow these tips, pack extra One by Poise®, and take a deep breath - I promise you’ll make it through!
